Frosted windshield- the solution of Volkswagen
Volkswagen is working on a windshield that can reduce or prevent ice formation in winter. An innovation that has a few small counterparts.
The joys of scraping windshields on winter mornings could be a memory with this innovation. This transparent coating of indium oxide and tin applied to the windshield, can limit the formation of ice in winter.
Thanks to the physical properties of this element, the glass may slow emissions of heat radiated outward. Warmer, windshield prevents or delays the cooling of the glass surface below the dew point. This principle is not effective in difficult conditions such as wind or high humidity. Volkswagen but ensures that the frost formation is widely aténuée or delayed, up to -18 degrees.
But this principle is elsewhere. By blocking the radiation, the windshield also slows the radio waves and disrupt the reception of GPS signals and those mobile browsers mobile phones.
For this reason, the windshield is not yet marketable magic and a parade is being studied at Volkswagen.
